**HARRY ABEND
One of the highest representatives of sculpture in Venezuela, Harry Abend was born in Jarosław, Poland, on May 5, 1937. He is a Venezuelan sculptor and architect, with a solid career of more than fifty years. He is one of the top representatives of sculpture in Venezuela, winner of the National Sculpture Prize in 1963 and the Francisco de Miranda Order. At the age of 11, he arrives in Venezuela, with his parents and brother. He enters the Moral and Lights School and then the "Andrés Bello" Lyceum in Caracas. A bachelor's degree graduate, he studies architecture at the Central University of Venezuela UCV, while he begins his sculptural work. At the age of 26, he is decorated with the National Sculpture Award for Forma 1961 sculpture, in the Official Salon. He also works as goldsmithing, working in gold, silver and precious stones. He works sculptures in wood and with emptying in concrete and bronze; and he performs large-scale architectural elements (doors, walls, ceilings and facades) of important buildings such as the Teresa Carreño Theater and the Synagogue of the Israeli Union of Caracas, given the Jewish nature of the artist. He is also an engraver, graphite cartoonist and sylographer. He was decorated with the Francisco de Miranda Order in First Class, in 1990.
Abend is recognized as one of the most experienced Venezuelan Contemporary Masters of the last fifty years. He is often entrusted with projects of various nature and importance. Examples of this are: from the jewel (golden necklace with raw emerald) for the queen and empress of Iran, Farah Pahlavi, at the commemoration of the 400th anniversary of Persepolis, to the design and execution of the recent perimeter fence of the Supreme Court of Justice of Venezuela, her country of residence. Abend was the artist honored at the Ibero-American Art Fair 2009.
