Exceptional quality workmanship executed in NYC at the workshops of Edward Farmer.
Edward I. Farmer by Farmer Inc. Sterling silver dresser box/jewelry box with five antique green jade panels. The jade is carved with a bird, flowers, and leaves and is translucent. Toped with a hand-carved rose quartz finial. The feet and the box top handle are rose quartz and jade beads. The silver is engraved with a geometric border.
The designer of the silver box, Edward I. Farmer (1872-1942), was an art dealer in New York City for twenty-nine years. His galleries at 5 West Fifty-Sixth Street and the 16 East Fifty-Sixth Street offered a variety of Chinese works of art as well as European antiques. He is remembered best for mounting fine Chinese porcelains and jades into decorative lamps and desk accessories.
