Georg Jensen Early 826 Silver Pendant with Opal and Amber from 1912. Extremely Rare.

This exquisite hand signed example is hallmarked 1912-14. The design number 27 was not recorded until 1914 and this example is un-numbered, indicating that this one was most likely a prototypeor earliest made. Attached below is a drawing of this design that’s included in a ca. 1914 Jensen retailers’ catalog.

Examples of similar but distinctively different pieces of jewelry that use the same stones and motifs can be seen in early documentation. These include a substantial necklace (halsband), design number unknown, that’s illustrated on page 132 of the 1915 volume of the decorative-arts journal “Skonvirke,” and also on page 131 of the 1916 volume. A pared-down version of this necklace design, which is identified as necklace #4, is illustrated in the ca. 1912 retailers’ catalog. Finally, brooch #57, shown in the same catalog, has filigree work and drops that resemble those used in the above pieces.

The brilliance and quality of the cabochon opals is very fine. The Baltic amber bead is original and opaque. There is one tiny flea bite toward the very top of the bead that is not noticeable without a loop. The chain and links are in excellent condition showing no visble wear on the silver. There is no indication of any restoration.
