Charming handwrought silver creamer and sugar by highly sought after silversmith, Peer Smed.
Peer Smed was born in Copenhagen, Denmark where he honed his craft . He won numerous awards ,medals and commissions by royalty. In 1909, after a four year visit to the US, he decided to immigrate and he established a metal workshop in Brooklyn, NY where he took commissions of all kinds and worked in silver, copper and bronze. . His handwrought silver was exhibited in museums and galleries in New York, Dallas and San Francisco. Very little of his silver is available on the market today and highly sought after. While the scope of his work in silver was limited, the workmanship is very distinctive with wonderful warm patina and rich handwrought quality. A similar example of this creamer and sugar is in the collection of the Brooklyn Museum of Art where it was part of an exhibition in 1937.
