Charming sterling silver dish by sought the highly sought after PEER SMED.
This footed dish has the feel of an open flower with leaves at the base. The hand hammering of this piece are almost like they are "painterly" as they swirl upward with the design.
About SMED:
Peer Smed was born in Copenhagen, Denmark where he honed his craft . He won numerous awards ,medals and commissions by royalty. In 1909, after a four year visit to the US, he decided to immigrate and he established a metal workshop in Brooklyn, NY where he took commissions of all kinds and worked in silver, copper and bronze. . His handwrought silver was exhibited in museums and galleries in New York, Dallas and San Francisco. Very little of his silver is available on the market today and highly sought after. While the scope of his work in silver was limited, the workmanship is very distinctive with wonderful warm patina and rich handwrought quality.
