**Matti Hyvarinen was a successful Finnish jewelry designer, sculptor, and painter. He opened his metalsmithing business, which still exists today, in the late 1950s. His workshop is known for its many award-winning Modernist designs crafted using a variety of different metals, including sterling silver and karat gold.
Matti Hyvarinen got his start in 1953 training for several years in his father’s workshop in Turku, Finland. He then worked for another business in Turku, Goldsmith Salovaara Company, for a year before he opened his shop in 1958. He started Sirokoru Ltd. in Kaarina, Finland, when he was just 21 years old.
From the late 1960s until the early 2000s, Hyvarinen displayed his jewelry in numerous exhibits across Europe and Asia. In 1967 he won the prestigious Diamonds International Award for his “The Rich and The Poor” brooch. Throughout his 60-year career, he also participated in several groups supporting the Finnish jewelry industry. He won the Goldsmith of the Year Award presented by the Finnish Goldsmith Association in 1987.
His business, Sirokoru Ltd., is still operating today. In addition to selling finished jewelry made of sterling silver, the workshop also offers casting services for other metalsmiths working in gold, silver, and bronze.
