Hans Hansen (1884-1940) started his own goldsmith shop and smithy in Kolding, Denmark in about 1906.
In the 20’s he started producing his own line of silver flatware based on his and H.F. Gross’ designs. Initially the company produced flatware. Once that was successful, they began producing jewelry. The first pieces were designed by Hansen himself around 1931. The company's range of products and reputation for superb modernist design was however established by his son, Karl Gustav Hansen, who was apprenticed in his father's workshop in 1932.
The company was taken over by the Royal Scandinavia Group in 1991 and thus incorporated into Georg Jensen. Several Hans Hansen designs are still being produced by Georg Jensen today.
