Bent Knudsen was born in 1924 in Kolding, Denmark. At the young age of fourteen, he made his first famous paper craft design “Maren the milking cow” – a classic masterpiece that sold thousands of units and remains a popular model today.
Mr. Knudsen held an apprenticeship with the renowned silversmith Hans Hansen’s Silversmith A/S in Kolding and continued working there until 1956. Along with his wife, Anni, the Knudsens soon established their own company with paper crafts and mobiles. They experimented with an array of material including paper, cardboard, wood, metal, glass, and plastic. The Knudsen’s designs and reputable brand became well known in Denmark and abroad.
The couple was honored with several awards for their designs in silver jewelry and paper crafts including one from the Danish Trade Council, and in 1988 the European Gold Star for Quality. The Danish royal family often patronized the company for several years, with commissioned work in gifts, silverware, and pieces for Danish churches and political buildings.
Anni Knudsen maintained the company after Bent’s death in 1997. Since 2008, Mrs. Louise Helmersen and Mr. Kent Sejdelin have operated the company under the name of Livingly, preserving the designs and spirit of the Knudsen family.
